In 1974, my parents purchased their first house on Inverness Rd. in Arlington, MA. After we had been there about 6 months, I began seeing and conversing with an non-threatening entity on the second floor. Right around the same time, things became quite emotional between my parents - there were daily fights and near-constant tension. Shortly after that, the poltergeist activity started. The activity was just annoying at first - moved keys and handbags, spilled drinks, soap disappearing from the shower, clean dishes moved from the drying rack back into the sink, etc. Of course, I would be blamed for nearly all the activity. When my mother became pregnant, the tension and the activity increased - flying dishes, slamming doors, the phone would ring when my mother was already on a call - things that were witnessed by my parents so they knew I was not the offender. After my mother delivered my brother in late 1975, the activity continuously escalated, but would stop completely for small periods of time. Then, in late 1977, it returned and was quite violent towards my mother and brother. She would commonly be "restrained" and "attacked" while trying to do laundry in the basement. On more than one occasion, my brother would wake up from a nap, positively screeching and saying (as best a 2 year old could) that his legs hurt. On inspection, his legs would be covered with bruises, and I can attest that he was never struck by my parents. The pilot light on the oven would be snuffed out while my mother was baking - both of us could clearly hear a "blowing" sound, as if someone was blowing out the flame. The last straw came during the blizzard of 1978 when my mother was carrying my brother down the stairs, and something pushed her - she fell the whole way down the stairs. Within minutes, bruises that looked somewhat like 3 large handprints appeared on her shoulder and back. They sold the house, and they NEVER speak of living there. |
